Bidding for game - quiz - answers

Hand 1

You bid 1 diamond, your partner bid 1 spade in response.

Count joint points: you know your partner has between 6 -14 points. You have 12 points. You have 18-26 points between you

Select best suit: you have at least 8 spades between you

Game or no game: game in spades usually requires 26 points to make, which is possible

Bid: 2 spades is best just in case your partner does have a strong hand. Pass is also acceptable

Hand 2

You bid 2 spades, your partner bid 3 clubs in response.
Count joint points: you know your partner has between 6 -14 points. You have 23 points. You have 29-37 points between you
Select best suit: you haven't found a match yet
Game or no game: game is definitely on 
Bid: 3 no trumps or 4 spades are both acceptable. You might also consider slam see more in lesson 11.

Hand 3

You bid 1 heart, your partner bid 3 hearts in response.

Count joint points: you know your partner has 15+ points. You have 12 points. You have 27+ points between you.

Select best suit: you have at least 8 hearts between you

Game or no game: game in hearts usually requires 26 points to make, which is definitely on

Bid: 4 hearts

Hand 4

Count joint points: you know your partner has 6-14 points. You have 18 points. You have 24-32 points between you.
Select best suit: you have at least 8 spades between you
Game or no game: game in spades usually requires 26 points to make. You are very close but not certain
Bid: either bid 3 spades and leave the game call to partner or risk it and bid 4 spades

Hand 5

Select best suit: no match found yet but you have a balanced hand with a high card in each suit so you should start to think about bringing no trumps into your thoughts
Game or no game: game in no trumps usually requires 26 points to make. You are very close but not certain

Bid: bid 3 diamonds to show your long suit 

Hand 6

Game or no game: game in clubs usually requires 29 points to make. game in hearts or no trumps only needs 26 points
Bid: 2 hearts to show your partner your other long suit.
